How to effectively learn, remember and understand information?
First, I would like to note that this article will talk about effective training and how to improve the understanding of the studied information. For example, studying at a university and to get a good grade, you need to understand the material of a subject. Or you study traffic rules in a driving school and you need to understand and remember these rules for passing the exam. And training the memory itself is a separate topic. That is, this article is not about how to get rid of forgetfulness, but about how to better study information.
The method consists of three basic simple items and additional actions that will improve the understanding and memorization of information.
- Learn material in small pieces. Reading the entire textbook at once, you will not understand much. Determine how much time and volume of information you need to learn, so that you can effectively master the material at a time.
- When you have read, or listened to a small piece of material, repeat it aloud or mentally. But don’t try to tell it word for word. Tell the studied material to yourself as you would like to explain it to other people in your own words. If you can’t explain, it means you haven’t mastered the information and you need to sort it out again. Then try again to explain what has been learned. With the successful passage of this stage, proceed to the following separate part.
- The third point is that the material studied should be tried to explain in simple words. You can also explain to yourself in comparison with something already familiar. When it is possible, then the material is understood and remembered.
In addition to these three items, consider the factors that affect mental abilities:
- fatigue;
- drowsiness;
- health status;
- environment;
- moral state.
That is, the learning process will be more effective if a person is rests well, slept well, there are no health problems which interfere with learning, there are no surrounding distractions (sound, other people, the temperature of the environment, etc.) and a balanced moral state (a person is not nervous, has a normal mood, etc.).
